MojoMotor - the new CMS from Ellislab

For many sites a full blown CMS like Expressionengine is sometimes overkill. In the past it’s been easy to use EE as a page management system (PMS), though that often meant only using a small amount of it’s features which seemed a waste. Not a big issue by any stretch of the imagination but one that makes you hanker for a simpler tool.

Enter MojoMotor which has just been announced by Ellislab, creators of Expressionengine, at EECI2010 (that’s Expressionengine + Codeigniter Conference). This new “Publishing engine” looks to be an ideal solution for simpler, basic sites that want page editing capabilities.

MojoMotor key features

  1. No control panel - direct editing in page
  2. Easy site integration - just drop in a few tags and CSS classes to define editable content
  3. Supports multiple templates for pages
  4. Drag and drop pages list - useful for creating navigation elements
  5. WYSIWYG editor based on CKeditor
  6. Two member groups, Admin and Editor - individual editors and have separate access permissions
  7. You can export the site content to an EE2.0 installation - an upgrade path!

At the time of writing no prices have been announced but keep an eye out on this one for future projects - http://mojomotor.com/
