Jshop 2.2 beta overview
The big news is that Jshop 2.2 will support multiple template sets, allowing you to change the look and feel of your shop in just a couple of clicks. This new feature opens many new possibilities for Jshop powered sites.
Easy template switching
Now it’s possible for you to have several different templates sets made for your web shop, and then change them whenever the need arises. Coupled with this “browser detection” is now available which allows you to serve different templates for different web browsers. One possible use here is to have a separate template set for people who use mobile devices.
You could have separate template sets for a myriad of occasions or uses:
- A “lite” template for faster browsing (take out the bloat!)
- A high visibility version to assist some disabled users
- A special Xmas layout with Santas and snow
- Mobile device friendly templates
- Valentines Day
- Mothers/Fathers Day
- Seasonal - Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter
- Special look for a promotion or sale
- Special templates for customer types such as wholesale
...all interchangable with a couple of clicks!
Reduced spam
If you’ve ever suffered an attack of the “Viagra pushers” you’ll be pleased to hear that reCaptcha has been integrated for use on contact forms. reCapture uses a code that users will need to enter before being able to send.
SMTP for outgoing email
With most web hosts imposing hourly limits on the amount of emails send per hour to combat abuse, sending large volumes of mail via Jshop in a short amount of time quite often exceeded these thresholds. Many pro-active hosts now provide SMTP gateways which bypass the limits for valid users, and now Jshop supports SMTP for all outgoing email including newsletter sending.
SEO URL improvements
A few tweaks to update structure of URL’s and some extra HTTP responses for invalid or unavailable products.
View everything on one page
Some template code enhancements are now available that allow users to see all products from a particular section on one page. This is ideal for people who hate clicking between sub pages tring to find something - now they can see everything in one go.
