Five must have free Expressionengine addons
Out of the box Expressionengine is a powerful CMS, but it’s not a perfect world and these free addons will go a long way to making the developers life a lot easier.
5. CSV
If you need to import a lot of data in one go then CSV is what you need, it works by importing the content of any CSV file directly into your custom fields. You can use a spreadsheet like Excel to prepare your data, or an export from another system. Saves loads of time!

4. Imgsizer
This wonderful addon allows you to resize images on the fly. All resized images are cached to avoid excessive server load and you can use it to create multiple versions of the same image. Imgsizer is highly configurable as well and you can set sizes, classes/ID’s and other parameters as you need them. Now you don’t need to worry about clients uploading 3000 pxile photos and blowing the layout to bits - just use Imgsizer!

3. Freeform
Freeform allows you to create multiple email forms and store the submitted form data in your database. Lots of uses, from a generic email form, to surveys, questionnaires, and collecting marketing data. Submitted data can be downloaded and opened up in a spreadsheet, and/or emailed to someone. You can also output your form data in any EEtemplate.

2. nGen File Field
Once upon a time Mark Huots “File” extension solved a lot of problems, it’s easy method of uploading files to a Weblog entry has saved the day for many EE designers. Sadly “File” had it’s day when nGen Works released nGen File Field. Taking all the good things from the old “File” extension, File Field made numerous improvements including the ability to use existing file, and deleting unwanted files from the server.

1. FieldFrame
If ever there was a “Holy Grail” of EE Addons then FieldFrame is it, so far at least, though we might be following another Grail next year… cue “He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy”!
This awesome addon allows you to create custom fieldtypes using Radio buttons, Select boxes, Checkboxes, and the almighty “FF Matrix” for tabular data. These fieldtypes can then be used in the Publish screen wherever you want the author to select values from a list, add tabular data or create lists of things.
Even better, nGen File Field can be used with FF Matrix to allow easy file uploads with inputs for things like ALT attributes, descriptions, styles, alignments - in fact virtually anything data want. Use it for a single image/file or a list of images/files.
